Catering a wake in Nottingham
Nottingham funerals divide fairly cleanly between the two crematoria. A service at Wilford Hill usually means a gathering somewhere south or east of the city — West Bridgford, Ruddington, Gedling, Carlton. A service at Bramcote usually means Beeston, Bramcote, Wollaton or Chilwell. Both have an hour or so between the service ending and people arriving, and that hour is the job.
What families ask for barely changes: sandwiches cut small, sausage rolls, pork pies, quiche, and cake with the tea. Plain and generous. Nobody has ever complained that a funeral tea was too ordinary, and several have said there was not enough.
The awkward part is always access. Whoever holds the key to the function room is usually at the crematorium, so tell us on the phone who will be there and when. We would far rather agree the timing than have a driver stood outside a locked club with a car full of sandwiches.
How quickly we can do it
Forty-eight hours for a delivered sandwich buffet, often better. We will tell you no on the phone rather than take a booking we cannot keep, because a wake is the one job where being let down cannot be put right afterwards.
Hot food served by our staff needs about a week. Most families are not asking for it, but if you are, say so early and we will be straight about the date.
Delivered buffets close at 4pm the day before, with a £20 minimum on the order. A Monday wake closes on the Friday afternoon.
Where we deliver around Nottingham
The whole city and the ring of towns around it — West Bridgford, Beeston, Arnold, Carlton, Bulwell, Wollaton, Mapperley, Sherwood, Clifton, Gedling, Bramcote and Ruddington — and out well past them. Delivery is free.
We deliver to crematoria, to function rooms, to social and working men's clubs, to church halls and to private houses. A house is no harder than a venue and is often where the family would rather be.
What we will ask you
The date, roughly how many people, the address, and the time you want it there. That is enough for a price on the phone.
Then it helps to know about dietary requirements and how many of each, whether there is a table or a bar to set out on, and who will let us in. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free and halal portions are prepared separately and labelled. Tell us how many of each when you order.
WHERE WE DELIVER
Nottingham and around it
We deliver across West Bridgford, Beeston, Arnold, Carlton, Bulwell, Wollaton, Mapperley, Sherwood, Clifton, Gedling, Bramcote and Ruddington, everywhere between them, and a good way beyond. If you are not sure whether we reach you, ring the office and ask — the answer is usually yes.
Venues we cater at in Nottingham

- The City Ground — Nottingham Forest FC — hospitality and function suites

Not an exhaustive list — if the venue you have in mind is not named here, it is almost certainly still one we cover.
Why Nottingham chooses us
Two crematoria, both covered
Wilford Hill and Bramcote serve most Nottingham funerals between them, and the gatherings afterwards happen in the same handful of clubs and function rooms nearby. We have catered in all of them.
A city office, not a call centre
The Nottingham number reaches somebody who can look at the diary and answer you, rather than take a message. When a family is arranging a funeral, being told 'someone will ring you back' is its own small cruelty.
Numbers can move
People who did not come to the service often come to the wake. Give us your best guess, ring if it changes, and we will send slightly over regardless.
Set out, then gone
Laid out and covered before the cars return. Our driver does not stay, and collects the platters the next working day.
What Nottingham customers say

Booked Sadlergates for my husband’s 50th birthday — The Hog Roast (we went with the Gold package). The team (Will, Ryan and Vickie) were all absolutely fantastic — friendly and professional whilst having a laugh with us! The food was completely outstanding, and every single guest commented on how incredible it was.
Shel · 50th birthday hog roast
Sadlergates did the catering for our wedding in Nottingham and we couldn’t have been happier… There was plenty of food and they were really good at dealing with our complex dietary requirements. On the day of the wedding they turned up exactly on time, prepped the food and brought it all out with excellent communication so we knew when to get everyone seated.

Funeral catering in Nottingham — your questions answered
How quickly can you cater a wake in Nottingham?
Usually within 48 hours for a delivered sandwich buffet. Ring the Nottingham office with your date and we will tell you immediately whether we can hold it. Hot food served by our team needs about a week.
Do you deliver near Wilford Hill and Bramcote crematoria?
Both, regularly. Most families hold the gathering at a club, hall or function room near the crematorium rather than at it, and we deliver to all of them.
What happens if the numbers change?
Tell us as soon as you know and we will adjust it. Numbers moving is completely normal — people who did not attend the service often come to the wake — which is why we send slightly over as a matter of course.
Do you set up and clear away?
We set up. The food is laid out where you want it and covered until people arrive. We do not stay for a delivered buffet, but our driver collects the platters and cool boxes the next working day.
What should we serve at a funeral tea?
Sandwiches, savouries and cake. Sausage rolls, pork pies, quiche and sandwiches cut small, with cake alongside the tea. Easy to eat standing, easy to put down when somebody comes over to talk.
How much food should we order?
One buffet portion per person, ordered for slightly more people than you expect. Tell us your number on the phone and we will tell you what we would send.
Can you cater for dietary requirements?
Yes. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free and halal portions are prepared separately and labelled. Tell us how many of each when you order. They are labelled so nobody has to ask.
How much does funeral catering cost in Nottingham?
From £5.50 a head for sandwiches, £7.70 with savouries, £9.40 for the fuller spread. Delivery is free across Nottingham, there is a £20 minimum, and prices exclude VAT.
