FUNERAL CATERING
Funeral catering in Leicester
Wakes and funeral teas delivered across Leicester, laid out at the venue before the family gets back from the service.
Leicester is a city where the catering has to fit the family rather than the other way round, and we would rather be asked a difficult question than guess at the answer.

Catering a wake in Leicester
The pattern in Leicester is a service at Gilroes on Groby Road, then a gathering at a community centre, a hall or a function room, usually within a few miles. There is an hour or so in between and that is our window.
What sets Leicester apart in practice is the range of dietary requirements at a single wake. It is entirely normal here for one gathering to need halal, vegetarian and vegan portions alongside everything else, and for the family to be too polite to lead with it. Please do lead with it — it is a straightforward thing to get right and an unforgivable thing to get wrong.
Otherwise a Leicester funeral tea looks like any other: sandwiches cut small, savouries, and cake with the tea. Plain, plentiful, and easy to eat standing up while people talk.
How quickly we can do it
Forty-eight hours for a delivered buffet. Ring the Leicester office with the date and we will tell you what we can genuinely hold to rather than taking the booking and hoping it works out.
Anything hot or served by our team needs longer and is quoted on the job. For most wakes the delivered cold buffet is both what is wanted and what we do best at this distance.
Orders close at 4pm the day before with a £20 minimum, and a Monday wake closes on the Friday.
Where we deliver around Leicester
The city and the towns around it — the centre, Belgrave, Evington, Knighton, Clarendon Park, Aylestone, Braunstone, Oadby, Wigston, Birstall, Glenfield and Blaby. Delivery is free.
Community centres, halls, function rooms, clubs and private houses. A house is no harder than a venue and is often where the family would rather gather.
What we will ask you
The date, roughly how many, the address and the time you need it there — enough for a price on the phone.
And then the dietary requirements, in detail and by number. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free and halal portions are prepared separately and labelled. Tell us how many of each when you order. We would rather have too much information than discover a requirement on the morning.
WHERE WE DELIVER
Leicester and around it
We deliver across the city centre, Oadby, Wigston, Braunstone, Aylestone, Evington, Knighton, Belgrave, Clarendon Park, Birstall, Glenfield and Blaby, everywhere between them, and a good way beyond. If you are not sure whether we reach you, ring the office and ask — the answer is usually yes.
Venues we cater at in Leicester
- King Power Stadium — Leicester City FC — conference and banqueting suites
- Welford Road Stadium — Leicester Tigers — one of the largest conference venues in the East Midlands
- Leicester Racecourse — Oadby — function rooms and marquee space
- Gilroes Cemetery and Crematorium — Wakes and funeral teas
Not an exhaustive list — if the venue you have in mind is not named here, it is almost certainly still one we cover.
Why Leicester chooses us
Diets are the first question, not the last
Leicester funerals routinely need halal, vegetarian or entirely vegan catering, and often all three at one gathering. We prepare those separately and label them, and we would rather you told us the requirement than worked around us.
Gilroes, and the halls near it
Gilroes Cemetery and Crematorium on Groby Road takes most Leicester funerals. The gatherings afterwards land in community centres, halls and function rooms across the north and west of the city.
Delivered and covered
Set out where you want it and covered until people arrive. Our driver does not stay and does not need managing on a day when nobody has attention to spare.
A price on the phone
Four questions and you have a figure, rather than a form to fill in and a wait. Families arranging a funeral are doing six other things at once.

Funeral catering in Leicester — your questions answered
How quickly can you cater a wake in Leicester?
Usually within 48 hours for a delivered buffet. Ring the Leicester office with your date and we will tell you immediately whether we can hold it.
Can you provide halal catering for a funeral?
Yes. Halal portions are prepared separately and labelled clearly. Tell us how many when you order — it is a common request in Leicester and a straightforward one for us.
Can you cater an entirely vegetarian or vegan wake?
Yes, and we do so regularly in Leicester. Tell us on the phone and the whole order is built that way rather than a vegetarian option being added to the side of it.
Do you deliver near Gilroes Crematorium?
Yes. Most families hold the gathering at a hall, community centre or function room a short drive from the crematorium, and those are what we deliver to.
What happens if the numbers change?
Ring and we will adjust it. Numbers moving at a funeral is normal, and we send slightly over as standard for that reason.
Do you set up and clear away?
We set up — laid out and covered until people arrive. We do not stay for a delivered buffet, but our driver collects the platters and cool boxes the next working day.
How much food should we order for a wake?
One buffet portion per person, ordered for slightly more people than you expect. Tell us your number and we will tell you what we would send.
How much does funeral catering cost in Leicester?
From £5.50 a head for sandwiches, £7.70 with savouries and £9.40 for the fuller spread. Delivery is free across Leicester, there is a £20 minimum, and prices exclude VAT.
