Catering a wake in Sheffield
Most Sheffield funerals we cater run through City Road Crematorium, with the gathering afterwards at a club, a church hall or a hotel function room nearby. There is usually an hour between the two, and we deliver into it so the food is out and covered before anyone walks in.
What we bring is a cold buffet: sandwiches cut small, sausage rolls, pork pies, quiche, and cake with the tea. It is the traditional funeral tea and it is also, practically, what survives a journey and a wait without being any the worse for it.
We are thirty miles from Sheffield and we do not pretend otherwise. What that distance rules out is a hot buffet plated by our staff on the day. What it does not affect at all is a cold buffet in insulated boxes, which is what the overwhelming majority of wakes want anyway.
How quickly we can do it
Forty-eight hours for a delivered buffet. Ring the Sheffield office with your date and we will tell you immediately whether it works rather than taking the booking and hoping.
There is no hot option here, so there is no longer lead time to negotiate. That simplicity is part of why the delivered buffet is the right answer at this distance.
Orders close at 4pm the day before, with a £20 minimum. A Monday wake closes on the Friday afternoon.

The date, roughly how many people, the address and the time. That is enough for a price while you are on the phone.
Then: dietary requirements and how many of each, whether there is a table to set out on, and access. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free and halal portions are prepared separately and labelled. Tell us how many of each when you order.

What happens if the numbers change?
Ring and we will adjust it. Numbers moving is normal at a funeral, which is why we send slightly over as a matter of course.
Do you set the food out?
Yes. It is laid out where you want it and covered until people arrive. We do not stay for a delivered buffet, and our driver collects the platters and cool boxes the next working day.
