Parties in Derby
Derby is where the business started in 2012, and its party work has a particular shape: a lot of it is repeat. The same families and the same clubs come back — a christening one year, a milestone birthday the next, a retirement after that.
Practically, that means most Derby party orders are placed by somebody who already knows what a Sadlergates buffet looks like and how much of it turns up. They ring, say 'the usual but for sixty', and that is the whole conversation. If you have not ordered before, the nine numbered buffets exist so you can get to the same place without the history: Buffet 1 at £5.50, Buffet 5 at £7.70, Buffet 9 at £11.00, contents published.
The venues are the clubs along the A52 and around Pride Park, the church and community halls across Chaddesden, Mickleover, Littleover and Allestree, and a great many front rooms and gardens.
Christenings, milestones and the awkward middle
The hardest party to cater is the one with a wide age range — a christening or an eightieth where there are toddlers and grandparents at the same table. Order the adult buffet and the kids menu separately: £8.00 a head for the children's, and both groups eat better than a compromise would give them.
The other awkward one is the garden party that might be indoors. Cold buffets do not mind either way, which is the quiet argument for them over a barbecue in a British summer.

Party catering in Derby — your questions answered
Can we just order what we had last time?
Yes, and plenty of Derby customers do. Ring the office with the date and the numbers and we can look up what went last time. If you are new, the nine numbered buffets get you to the same place without the history.
Can you cater a party for both adults and children?
Yes, and it is worth ordering them separately. The kids menu is £8.00 a head; adult buffets start at £5.50. Both groups eat better and it usually costs less than ordering everyone the same thing.
How much notice do you need?
Order by 4pm for the next working day. Derby is the one city we deliver into every single working day, so a late booking here is more often possible than elsewhere.
Do you cater christenings and family parties?
Constantly — it is a good share of the Derby work. A christening usually wants the adult buffet and the kids menu at £8.00 a head ordered separately, because the age range is the widest of any party we do.
Can you cater a garden party that might end up indoors?
A cold buffet does not mind either way, which is the quiet argument for one over a barbecue in a British summer. If you want the barbecue anyway, it is £13.00 a head with a fifty minimum and we will talk you through the weather question.
Is there a minimum order?
£20 on the order value for a delivered buffet, which is four people on Buffet 1. Anything cooked on site is quoted as an event and the buffet minimum does not apply to it.
Do we have to wash up?
No. Disposable plates and napkins are included with every buffet, and our driver collects the cool boxes and empty platters the next working day.
