Where a Chesterfield hog roast usually happens

Chesterfield is the one town we cover where a good share of the big occasions happen in a hotel rather than a field. Ringwood Hall, Casa and the function rooms at the SMH Group Stadium all take large private bookings, and all three have kitchens of their own.

That changes the question. An outside caterer working in a venue’s kitchen is often not allowed; a hog roast in the grounds, carved from our own machine, frequently is, because it does not touch their kitchen at all. It is one phone call to the venue and it is the question most likely to unlock the booking.

Away from the hotels it is the usual mix: cricket and football clubs, village halls out at Brimington and Staveley, farm and barn venues towards the Peak, and back gardens in Walton, Hasland and Brampton.

What we need from the site

Roughly three metres by five of level ground for the machine and the gazebo, and no steps between it and where people will eat. Chesterfield gardens on the west side are rarely flat, so it is worth checking before the day rather than discovering a terrace wall on arrival.

Access to water or electricity helps if you have it and is not required. What we do need is somewhere to park close enough to unload the machine, which is the thing most often forgotten at a town-centre venue.

We arrive about an hour before service and clear everything away afterwards. Service runs for a full hour, carved to order, so people eat when they are ready instead of queueing at a set time.

WHERE WE DELIVER

Chesterfield and around it

We deliver across Chesterfield Town Centre, Brampton, Walton, Hasland, Brimington, Staveley, Whittington, Wingerworth, Dronfield and Clay Cross, everywhere between them, and a good way beyond. If you are not sure whether we reach you, ring the office and ask. The answer is usually yes.

Venues we cater at in Chesterfield

  • Ringwood Hall Hotel & SpaGeorgian manor house in 29 acres at Brimington
  • Casa HotelFour-star, close to the town centre
  • SMH Group StadiumChesterfield FC, suites for 5 to 400 guests

Not an exhaustive list, if the venue you have in mind is not named here, it is almost certainly still one we cover.

Why Chesterfield chooses us

  • The hotels will often allow it

Ringwood Hall, Casa and the SMH Group Stadium all have their own kitchens, and a roast in the grounds is a different conversation from an outside caterer in their kitchen. Ask.

  • Priced for the event, not per head

£795 up to fifty guests, £1,450 at 151 to 200. Every band across all three packages is published, so you can cost the day before you ring.

  • The Peak edge is normal for us

Out past Wingerworth and Holymoorside the venues are further apart and rarely have a kitchen. A roast brings its own, which is exactly why it suits up there.

  • Everything included in the price

The machine, the gazebo, the chef and the service. Not extras added at the end, which is worth checking whoever else you ask.

We have catered Chesterfield since 2012. If you have a date in mind, the earlier we know it the more likely it is still free.

Hog roast catering in Chesterfield, your questions answered

How much is a hog roast in Chesterfield?

£795 for up to fifty guests on Bronze, which covers the hog, crackling, stuffing, rolls and sauces. Silver is £940 with coleslaw and baby roast potatoes, Gold £1,050 with butcher’s best sausages. The full table by guest numbers is on the hog roast menu.

Will our hotel let you bring a hog roast?

Often, yes. A roast in the grounds does not use the venue’s kitchen, which is usually what their exclusivity clause is about. Ask them whether outside catering is permitted outdoors specifically, and tell us what they say.

Do you deliver out towards the Peak?

Yes. Wingerworth, Holymoorside, Dronfield, Clay Cross and the villages out that way are all normal for us. The venues are further apart and almost none has a kitchen, which is why a roast works so well up there.

How much notice do you need?

Weeks rather than days for a hog roast, and a summer Saturday goes considerably earlier than that. Midweek dates are far easier and cost exactly the same.

What do vegetarians and vegans eat?

Pulled BBQ jackfruit cobs are the standard vegan main and are served as a proper portion. Gluten-free, dairy-free and halal-sourced portions are prepared separately from the hog and labelled.

Is there a minimum number?

Fifty is where a hog roast starts to make sense, because a hog feeds what it feeds regardless. Thirty guests would pay the up-to-fifty price and take a lot home, so for smaller numbers a buffet is usually the better answer and we will tell you so.
