Where a Mansfield barbecue happens
Sports clubs are the biggest single category here: cricket teas that turned into a proper summer event, football club presentation days, and the bowls and rugby clubs around Forest Town and Rainworth. After that it is school and scout summer fairs, works family days at the Crown Farm and Oakham business parks, and big back gardens in Mansfield Woodhouse and Sutton.
What those have in common is a fixed moment when everybody eats at once. A barbecue suits that better than a buffet, because it is cooked to order in a continuous run for a full hour instead of being laid out and slowly picked over.
Out towards Edwinstowe, Ollerton and Clipstone the venues are country park and woodland settings, where an outdoor grill is often the only practical hot option.
The two things worth sorting first
Level ground for the grills, about three metres by five, with no steps between there and where people will eat. And a wet-weather plan, which is the one most often left to chance: the cooking copes under a gazebo, but a queue of fifty people in the rain does not, so somewhere under cover to eat matters more than cover for the chef.
The minimum is fifty guests, or the equivalent booking value. Below that a delivered buffet from £5.50 a head usually gives you more food for the money, and we will tell you so on the phone.
Sides come with every package: Sadlergates coleslaw, mature cheddar slices, onions, kachumber salad and baby roasts with sauce vierge, plus ketchup, American mustard and BBQ sauce. Children eat at £8.00 a head with hot dogs and 4oz cheeseburgers.

Is there a minimum number?
Fifty guests, or the equivalent booking value. Our chefs and the equipment come to you and stay for the afternoon, so below fifty a delivered buffet is usually better value.
What happens if it rains?
The grills run under a gazebo and the cooking is unaffected. The thing to plan is where your guests eat, because a queue in the rain is what actually spoils a barbecue. A marquee, a clubhouse or a barn all work.
How long does service run?
We arrive an hour and a half before your service time, cook for a full hour, and do seconds for anyone who wants them. Then we clear away.
Can you cater for halal, vegetarian and vegan guests?
Yes. A spicy bean burger and a vegan sausage are in the standard package, and halal-sourced portions are prepared separately and labelled. Tell us the numbers for each when you book.
