Getting married around Sherwood
Weddings on this side of Nottinghamshire tend to happen outdoors or in buildings that were not built for feeding a hundred people. Rufford Mill and the country park, the barns towards Edwinstowe and Ollerton, the halls in the villages — lovely rooms, no kitchens, and often a walk between where we can park and where you want to eat.
That is the whole planning question here, and it is worth settling before the menu. A hog roast from £795 solves it outright: it brings its own heat, needs three metres by five of flat ground, and turns the catering into something guests stand round rather than something hidden behind a screen. A hot buffet at £23.50 a head works too, but it needs somewhere sensible to set up and a shorter carry.
Being twelve miles up the road means we can get to most of these places, look at the ground and tell you honestly what will work, which is a more useful conversation than a tasting and considerably cheaper.
Autumn and winter weddings
A good share of Mansfield weddings are off-season, and off-season here means October to March in a building with one radiator and a marquee bolted to the side of it. Cold food does not do well in that. Hot food does, which flips the usual advice about buffets.

Yes, and around Mansfield most of them are. We bring everything we need. What we will ask about is the ground and the access — three metres by five of flat space for a hog roast, and a route to it that does not cross a hundred yards of wet grass.
How far in advance should we book?
Summer Saturdays go a year ahead. Midweek and off-season are far easier. Ring with the date and we will tell you what is free rather than what we would like to be.
Can we taste the food first?
Yes, on request. A menu chosen from a written description is a menu chosen twice.

How do you handle dietary requirements?
Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free and halal portions are prepared separately and labelled. Tell us how many of each when you book. Give us the numbers with your final count and those plates are made separately.
What deposit do you need?
25% holds the date, balance due 30 days before. Final numbers seven days out, and you can move them freely until then.
